The Old Croft House, Balmaqueen

We’re situated on the stunning Trotternish peninsula in the north of Skye. The cottage sleeps four in two en-suite bedrooms (1 king, 1 twin) and is warm and welcoming with a relaxing sauna. The Old Croft House is in an ideal location, with panoramic views across the bay and spectacular sunsets over the Outer Isles. If you’re lucky, the magical Northern Lights will entertain you throughout the evening and Balmaqueen is an amazing place for star gazing, with the Milky Way right above the cottage.

Opened in summer 2017, as a newly refurbished and extended croft cottage. It sleeps four in two en-suite bedrooms (1 king, 1 twin) both with WC, basin and power shower. An infra-red sauna for two and deep bath with sea view adds luxury in the master en-suite. There are two lounges both with wood burning stoves. The traditional lounge has a 42″ satellite TV, books, maps and games. The lounge in the new extension has spectacular views, reclining leather settees and underfloor heating. The kitchen is well equipped with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and Nespresso coffee machine. A utility room contains a washing machine, Belfast sink, iron and board. The cottage is warm, comfortable and cosy. Broadband is available via wi-fi throughout.

Views of the sea and shipping, fabulous sunsets, moonsets and mountains from the cottage.  Hares and eagles go by.  There are dark skies too, come and you may see the Milky Way and Northern Lights.

There are lovely walks from here, along unspoilt coastline, to the famous Rubha Hunish bothy, the fabulous Single Track cafe.  Golden and Sea Eagles can be seen from cottage, an otter in the bay, with whales, basking sharks, dolphins and seals in the sea around us.

There are many ‘must see’ sites, most within 15 minutes and all within 30 mins drive including: the spectacular Quirang and the Trotternish ridge, Museum of Island Life, monument to Flora MacDonald, Duntulm Castle, dinosaur footprints, Staffin beach, ferry to the Outer Hebrides from Uig.  Excellent cafes and restaurants nearby.

Wildlife tours, a day trip to the Outer Hebrides or St. Kilda can all be done from here.  There’s coasteering and other Skye adventures for the more energetic.  Or simply kick back, switch off and enjoy the view.

Pets by prior arrangement.  Sorry, no children under 12, no smoking in the property.
